If you've spent even ten minutes comparing channel managers, you've noticed every single one uses the exact same marketing language. 'Real-time sync.' 'Seamless OTA integration.' 'Trusted by 1000+ hotels.' None of that tells you which one will actually save you time and stop overbookings at your property. So instead of another feature list, here's what to actually check before you sign up.
1. How fast is the sync, really?
'Real-time' gets used loosely. Some channel managers sync every few minutes, some genuinely push updates within seconds. The difference matters most on your last room of the night — a 5-minute lag is exactly the window where two OTAs can both sell it. Ask the vendor directly: what's the actual sync speed, not the marketing word for it?
2. Who does the OTA mapping — you, or them?
This is the part that quietly kills most self-service channel manager signups. Mapping your room types and rate plans correctly to each OTA's system takes real expertise, and getting it wrong causes exactly the problems you bought the software to avoid. Find out upfront whether their team does this setup for you, and whether it costs extra.
3. What happens when something breaks at 11pm?
Sync issues don't wait for business hours. Before you commit, ask what support actually looks like — is it a ticket system with a 48-hour response time, or can you reach a real person quickly when a channel stops updating? For a hotel, a stuck sync for a day can mean a real overbooking, not just an inconvenience.
Checklist — go through this before you sign anything
Before choosing a channel manager, make sure you have clear answers to:
- Which OTAs does it actually connect to — do your top channels (Booking.com, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, Agoda, whatever drives your bookings) all have live, certified integrations?
- How long does setup realistically take, and who does the room and rate mapping?
- Is there a setup fee, and what happens if you want to cancel later?
- Does it also give you access to any first-party or direct booking channel, or is it purely a sync tool?
- What does support look like outside business hours?
Where MatiWon fits in
We built MatiWon around the answers to exactly these questions: sync happens in real time, our team handles the OTA mapping and setup for you at no cost, most properties are live within 24 hours, and there's no long-term contract. You also get a listing on Mati Trip, our own booking platform, as an additional channel — not just OTA syncing, an extra source of direct bookings.
If you're comparing options right now, book a free demo and ask us the same questions above. We'd rather you decide with real answers than a features page.
